FF Weekly - Week 3 Edition

Hello Bitches!

Best headline about the Lions victory over the Redskins: "Washington Bails out Detroit Again." Haha but congrats to the Lions for getting a win, that being said Stafford played out of his mind on 3rd down, I don’t think he’ll play that well again anytime soon.

Standings for NFL Spreads pool (picking games based on spreads):

Rebecca Varnes: 31

Justin Williams: 29

CO Varnes: 24

Let's pick it up CO!

Credit to Shaun Hill, he played his best game as a pro against the Vikings, he looked poised against a tough pass rush, he’s only INT was not on him but on Delanie Walker, Walker slipped as and feel down giving Cedric Griffin the easy pick. Great pass by Favre to win the game, an even better catch and route by Greg Lewis… the Pats might be fishing they had kept Lewis and cut Joey Galloway who looks awful.

Quick thoughts from week 3:

  • Percy Harvin Is Who We Thought He Was, Part One: He takes a kickoff back 101 yards for a touchdown. He has ridiculous speed. Once he got in the clear, he appeared to be the only player on the field who was running
  • Percy Harvin Is Who We Thought He Was, Part Two: He drops a pass that would have converted a first down, and San Francisco gets the ball back, down by only 3
  • Atlanta might be over-rated, wins over 2 teams that are 0-3. The Defense is still in the bottom half of the league in terms of effectivenes
  • Kurt Warner looked old against the Colts, bad timing/communication between him and receivers
  • Josh Johnson will make some waives as Bucs starting QB, sick athleticism, great throwing mechanics, good ball security, 4.4 forty time
  • Miami trading for Tyler Thigpen makes sense, Pat White is not an NFL QB, Thigpen is a great athlete and can run the spread/wildcat effectively
  • Trent Edwards is way too conservative to be a good NFL QB, refused to test the Saints secondary deep despite having a great WR core and one of the most explosive WRs in the NFL in Lee Evans.
  • Moreno looks like a young LT minus the breakaway speed, great burst, excellent vision, unreal agility, fantastic moves at the second level, great power to get extra yards after contact
  • Mike Sims-Walker and David Garrard have very precise timing/Anticipation. No doubt that he is team's #1 WR going forward
  • Jamarcus Russell / Brady Quinn continue to battle it out for worst QB in the NFL, in the 2nd half against the Broncos Russell was sacked (2) more than he had passing yards (1).
  • Orlando Pace of the Bears looks like a corpse, letting Seattle defenders by him like a turn-style
  • Seahawks jersey’s looked the Nighttime construction guys on the highway, if I were a coach I’d bust those things out all the time, so distracting for the other team.

Updated Predictions: Division Winners & Wild Card Teams

AFC Update: Stays the same, close to adding Cincy as a playoff team though, still not sold on the Ravens, still love my Jags

NFC Update: Removed Falcons in favor of GB.

AFC East: New England

AFC North: Pittsburg

AFC South: Indy

AFC West: San Diego

AFC Wild Cards: Baltimore, Jacksonville

NFC East: NY Giants

NFC North: Minnesota

NFC South: New Orleans

NFC West: Seattle

NFC Wild Cards: Green Bay, Chicago

Weekly Recap

Game of the week – J Dub (102) Brooks (100) – I was just able to sneak by Brooks with a win, Drew Brees put up a clunker with only 5 fantasy points. I was still down by 1 point in the final hour when Vinatieri nailed a field goal to ensure the victory, I believe I picked him up off waivers. Brooks avoided playing Darren McFadden and still lost, that’s just how it goes sometimes.

Jack (86) over Jake (62) – Jake’s WR situation is starting to look grim. Wes Welker is out for who knows how long, TO has been a complete bust in Buffalo, and put up a goose egg this week. Santonio Holmes put up a few big games but has shown a lot of inconsistency the last 2 weeks, dropping passes and being out of sync with Big Ben, this week he put up less than 2 points. For Jack, it was a big day from Aaron Rodgers, throwing for almost 300 yards, 3 TDs and running for another that put the game out of reach.

CO (96) over Dabbs (69) – Dabbsie comes crashing back down to earth. Frank Gore left the Vikings game after only a few carries after suffering an ankle injury that will sideline him for the next 3 weeks, and the rest of his team didn’t do much either. CO made some inexplicably bad coaching decisions and still won with ease.

Dog of the Week – Wolfy (107) over Atkins (81) – Atkins drops his 3rd straight game and looks like the hapless Dabbs team of 2008. Atkins team actually has a lot of production, his problem will be figuring out who to trust on a week by week basis, something which he has shown no capability in doing thus far…. Starting 0-3 might be a death sentence if he doesn’t turn it around against Team Box lunch next week.

Matt Dabbs Coaching Blunders of the Week

CO, CO, and CO – For Benching MJD (33) & Brandon Jacobs (15) or Anquan Boldin (14) for Devery Henderson (4) and Fred Jackson (9). The fact that CO can make so many blatant coaching blunders and still got win is pathetic. While Fred Jackson v. New Orleans was a decent match-up, MJD against the awful, terrible, disgraceful Texans defense had to easily be one of the best matchups of the week. Pocket Hercules made him pay by putting up a triple TD performance. Playing Devery Henderson over proven studs is just disgraceful. Henderson occasionally has an outburst, but the other half of the time he plays inconsistent, drops passes, and generally looks like he belongs in the CFL. Starting him above other great matchups – B.Jacbos against the anemic Bucs, and A.Boldin against the Colts is asinine, idiotic, pathetic, and any other pejorative that comes to mind. God I hate Dabbs for letting you win. CO’s text to me after MJD’s 3rd TD about sums it up: “I have jones-drew on the bench… FML”

Wolfy – Big Ben over Peyton Manning – Just when I start to have a sliver of respect for Dogmeat, he goes and pulls a move like this…. Which makes me wonder, do you even watch football? Benching Peyton Manning is almost unthinkable unless maybe you had whoever was playing the 2008 Lions. The Bangles defense is actually pretty respectable this year, definitely in the top half of the league. Oh and you also had Ronnie Brown on the bench against the Chargers… The Chargers without Jamal Williams are suddenly a suspect run defense.

Non-Miller Lite Good Calls of the Week

J Dub – Picking up and playing Mike-Sims Walker at the last minute for 6.1 points. Well my receivers were banged up or named Eddie Royal, so I needed a Sunday waiver wire wonder to get me through the week, I selected the little-know Mike-Sims Walker who has a lot of talent but has never managed to stay healthy long enough to show much. While he’s finally healthy and now with overrated Troy Williamson out of the way, he’s the number one for the Jags underrated offense moving forward. His 6 catch, 81 yard performance was marred by a lost fumble, but I needed all 6 of his points for the win.

The rest of you fail, no one else was worthy of this award, I stand alone this week.

A lot of great matchups next week: NYJ @ NO, DAL @ DEN, BAL @ NE!

Weekly Game Picks, Week 3

Cincinnati over Pittsburgh – The Bangles have more sacks and more rushing yards than the Steelers through the first two weeks of the season, while the Steelers usually perform well in Cincinnati, I think the Bangles scrap it out for a win.

Washington over Detroit – Most of the taking heads and MSM folks are picking the Lions for the upset so that’s a clear sign that Washington will win going away… the Skins still have a top 10 defense and the Lions offense and rookie Matthew Stafford are anemic, an easy call.

Minnesota over San Fran – San Fran has started 2-0 each of the last 2 seasons, and then proceeded to drop the next 6 games. They won’t drop 6 in a row this year, but they won’t beat a Vikings team who will expose their offense for what it is, one of the worst units in the league.

New England over Atlanta – While these are two teams headed in different directions, Beliheck doesn’t lose two in a row, and the Atlanta defense is still suspect. Atlanta might be the better team next time around, but this one has Pats written all over it.

Tennessee over New York – The Titans are disparate for a win, and NYJ is still hungover from their Super Bowl win over the Pats. Chris Johnson gashed Rex Ryan’s Baltimore defense in last season’s AFC title bout before he was injured, look for more of the same this week.

New York Giants over Tampa Bay – While the Bucs offense has been surprisingly decent, the defense is imploding upon itself, things won’t get any easier when the Giants roll into town.

Green Bay over St. Louis – I wanted to pick the Rams in an upset win, but it’s hard to imagine them generating enough offense to stay with the Pack.

Baltimore over Cleveland – Lock of the week right here, easy win for the Ravens. Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russell are racing to see which one can earn the first round bust title quickest.

Jacksonville over Houston – I still believe in the Jags as a playoff team, they finally show up this week against Houston whose offense isn’t as good as advertised, and defense is as bad as advertised. Troy Williamson getting put on IR is actually a major plus for this team, who have a better talent in Mike-Sims Walker behind him.

Chicago over Seattle – Normally I would be picking the Seachickens but their injury report is already as long as an Obama bail-out bill, Bears will roll in a close one.

New Orleans over Buffalo – The Saints hand out their 3rd trashing in a row.

Denver over Oakland – While the Raiders sometimes come alive in the black hole, Jamarcus Russell is digressing, and the pass protection is so bad that they have keep the team’s best offensive weapon (TE Zach Miller) into block. Neckbeard is becoming more comfortable in the Denver O, and Knowshon Moreno is due for a breakout, Broncos roll to 3-0.

San Diego over Miami - Antonio Gates should have his way with a Miami secondary that was eviscerated by Dallas Clark and while Miami can pound the rock, they won’t be able to keep pace with the Chargers high-powered attack.

Indy over Arizona – Peyton Manning showed he needed only a quarter of football to put up almost 30 points; Arizona will give him many more opportunities, this one’s a shoot out but the Colts will come away with the win.

Carolina over Dallas – Grand Executor Jerry Jones came out to defend his errant QB, but the list of Tony Romo detractors grows every week. The Dallas defense has been surprisingly porous, and since they couldn’t cover Steve Smith last week, the real Steve Smith will cause them even more problems. Picking Carolina for the 3rd straight week and they better not let me down this time.

FF Weekly - Week 2 Edition

Heyo Bitches,

Week 2 edition of FF weekly, another great weekend of NFL action, the lady was out of town so that means I was inebriated the entire weekend and spent a hungover Sunday watching the Bears/Steelers because the television nazis didn’t televise Broncos/Browns.

Speaking of the Broncos, they move to 2-0, which could be a matt dabbs style mirage, but at least they are beating inferior competition. Kyle Orton turned in a top 5 QB performance according to football outsiders, including a great finish which saw the neckbeard’s last seven attempts go for six completions for 134 yards and five first downs. With his two-yard touchdown to TE Tony Schefftler, Orton improved his TD to INT ratio within the redzone to 23:2. The Broncos are also among the best in the league at the tip drill… but enough Broncos glorification for one day…

The Bears had a bounce back win against the Steelers, but needed two missed Jeff Reid field goals, and Santonio Holmes left about 70-80 yards in catches on the field with drops and slips, including a likely game-winning TD. Jeff Reed’s face was priceless. Also, 5th rounder Johnny Knox is officially a draft day steal, check out his profile on draftguys TV located here, its good stuff : http://draftguys.com/index.php/articles/dgtv_1/johnny_knox_-_wr_-_abilene_christian/

I’m thrilled the Giants ruined the Cowboys opener; I particularly loved the part when Jerry Jone's massive replay screen showed a ball bounce off Jason Witten’s foot and into the arms of Kenny Phillips for one of three Romo INTs.

On a college football note, you've got love the sign in the background with the reference to Kangay West's blowup at [insert random awards show]: Click ME

Weekly Recap

Game of the Week – Wolfy (104) over CO (93) – Dogmeat bounces back after a tough loss to the redhead in week one, I think at one point this game was 90 to 30 but then Peyton Manning and Ronnie Brown happened. Wolfy also won the battle of the Steve Smith’s, as Steve Smith of the NYG put up 21 points, while Steve Smith of Carolina only produced 13. Inexplicably, the Titans defense still contributed 1 fantasy point for Wolfy after being eviscerated by the Texans.

Dabbsie (120) over Atkins (96) – Dabbsie starts 2-0? Apparently the world is coming to an end soon, please review your duck and cover protocols in case of a nuclear event. But seriously, Dabbsie started McNabb who was clearly not going to play, as well as Fatdale White, the two combined for a grand total of 2 points. I’m not sure if Atkins is still alive, If he is he probably lives in a cat urine soaked house and works at Family Video, but if your life sucks that much at least try to have some dignity in fantasy football.

Brooks (159) over Jack (95) – Brooks had several players blow up including Andre Johnson, V.Jax, and Dallas Clark, as well as a standard Drew Brees day of 25 points, giving him the highest score of the year so far. Jack got an ‘average’ 15 point day from Adrian Peterson instead of a ridiculous, ‘I’m going to knock down every single one of your defenders on my way to the endzone’ type days, which wasn’t enough to best Brooks.

Dog of the week J Dub (124) over Jake (76) – I’m on the other side of the dog of the week this time around, while despite getting inexplicable goose eggs from both Greg Jennings and Zach Miller, I still cashed in for the second highest score of the week on the back of a ridiculous day for Chris Johnson, scoring over 50 fantasy points. CJ was the lucky recipient of the Texans Defense’s contractually bound obligation to leave one player ridiculously wide-open during the course of the game (Last week it was Chauncy Stucky, who will it be next week?)

Matt Dabbs Coaching Blunders of the Week

Jack – For playing Thomas Jones (5.3) against the Pats over Darren Sproles (23) against the Ravens. I had this exact same call to make in a different league and thought Sproles was the easy choice, neither back was going to find running room but Sproles was going to get a lot passes, and if someone was going to catch passes out of the backfield for the Jets, it wasn’t going to be Thomas Jones… bad call Asian.

Brooks – For playing Matt Forte (5.2) over Ryan Grant (10.8) – This one was pretty simple, Grant had the Bangles and Forte had the Steelers, and nobody runs the ball on the Steelers! Also Cutler won’t throw to the RBs as much as ‘captain checkdown’ Kyle Orton did, so Forte’s not the #1 option in the passing game anymore. 2 Weeks in a row on the coaching blunders list Brooks! Let’s see if you can make it three…

Non-Miller Lite Good Calls of the Week

Jake – Brett Favre (14.2) over Tom Brady (7/8) / Tony Romo (12.3) – I guess Jake had respect for the Jets defense, sitting Brady is a bold move, even if Favre did have the hapless Lions, good call Jake.

CO – Willis McGahee (20.9) over Brandon Jacobs (5.8) – Wow what a call, but I’m thinking you somehow lucked into this one, I don’t really see the rationale in choosing McGahee here unless you were really scared of the Cowboys defense in their new palace, but good job CO, however this decision is marred by the fact you lost to Wolfy.
